Walking with friends on Saturday during a spiritual retreat, I revelled in leaves of varying shades of auburn and golden yellow. In the heights of tall oaks and resting mournfully on the meadow floor beneath me, the emerald lungs of the forest resign themselves to decay as man and animal squelch them underfoot, to become mulch for next year’s growth.

Life and creativity have distinct cycles. Some passages of the road are less welcome than others. Personally, I dislike winter. The dim light, deadness, damp in the air do nothing to thrill and propel me into enterprise. But I reflect: the leaves accept their fate so readily. How much more should I accept the God-ordained rhythm that often leaves me breathless but at other times so easily dogs my enthusiasm and verve? Thankfully, I managed to send the first complete draft of my new novel, ‘The Innocence Trap’, to Sarah, the editor, before embarking on my retreat. I am eagerly awaiting the edited manuscript to launch into the next stage of revision. Recently, I have also sold more copies of my previous book, ‘Treacherous Pursuit,’ – eBooks are still more popular than paperback. If you would like to purchase an this novel in eBook format for Kindle, please see https://www.amazon.co.uk/Treacherous-Pursuit-Rescuer-Indus-Book-ebook/dp/B0CNMS7TVN/

My next short blog post will be before the launch of my second book in the Indus Collection. I hope you will lift your head to the season and like me, even with doubts or misgivings, trust in God’s grace to sustain your artistic endeavours in the cold and damp of these dark winter months.
